Developers Had a Big Say in Kinect’s Features

Blitz Games Studios has four Kinect titles in development and has already released The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout, so it's no surprise that Microsoft valued its feedback when developing the sensor's libraries. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the studio's CEO Philip Oliver spoke about the collaborative process that led to new features being introduced for Kinect.

Microsoft Condones the Use of Open Source Kinect Drivers

Before Kinect launched, Microsoft claimed it would vigorously protect its sensor from hacking, but all the impressive stuff we've seen so far hasn't technically been hacking: it's all been possible through the coding and distribution of open source drivers for Kinect. Maybe that's why Kinect head honcho Alex Kipman has said in a recent interview that, actually, Microsoft isn't all that bothered about chasing down these enterprising users.

WiiWare

Snowpack Park (Nintendo, 800pts) – Befriend penguins in this left-field release from Nintendo. A cross between the pet and adventure genres, Snowpack Park sees you exploring a range of islands in order to rescue and take care of penguins, enjoying all the fun of dressing up the little birds too. This one could go either way, so we'll see if it gets a frosty reception from our reviewer this week.

WiiWare Demos

And Yet It Moves (Broken Rules) – A twisty take on the puzzle genre, this is one of WiiWare's most celebrated releases and well worth playing for free. If you like what you see here, the full game is well worth picking up, as our And Yet It Moves review testifies.
