Hiroshi Yamauchi Gives Millions to Cancer Treatment Hospital

Former Nintendo president opens new centre in Kyoto

Under the fifty-year reign of Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo went from a tiny company to the multi-billion pound giant we know today, so it's no surprise to hear Mr Yamauchi is still pretty well-off when it comes to cash. He's not buying solid gold race cars and diamond-encrusted TVs though: he's helped build a cancer hospital in Kyoto, Japan.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Speeds Past Summer Release Date, Into Late 2010

Delay for WiiWare platformer for extra polish

Nobody likes being made to wait, especially Sonic himself, but Sega has just announced its upcoming return to the hog's 2D roots, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, is going to miss its Summer release slot and will now be available in "late 2010."

SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game, and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010. The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands, and ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel.

Although this is disappointing, how many times in the past have you wished Sega would have spent a little longer working on a Sonic title before releasing it? Particularly with a title as important to the character as this one, it's perhaps not a terrible thing that it's getting some extra development time.

Monster Hunter 3 Online is Staying Region Locked

Capcom producer Ryozo Tsujimoto breaks the bad news

Recently we got chance to interview Monster Hunter Tri's producer Mr Ryozo Tsujimoto and had to ask him about the continent-specific servers that prevent monster hunters from opposite sides of the Atlantic from playing with each other. Although there was initially hope that the region lock-out would be a temporary measure, Mr Tsujimoto confirmed our worst fears by saying it's around to stay.

Due to several affecting factors I’m afraid we need to keep the servers separated.

Mr Tsujimoto didn't expand upon these factors but we have contacted Nintendo for a follow-up. The rest of the interview containing many other interesting nuggets will be available later tonight, so it's not all bad news.

Bit.Trip Runner is About “What it Means to be Human”

Have you played Bit.Trip Runner yet? It's rather good and, as we said in our review, "cements Gaijin's reputation as a developer that has repeatedly shown it has a firm grasp on the craft of gaming." You might not actually understand what the game's about though: like previous Bit.Trip titles, it's not abundantly clear at first, but a recent Bitmob interview with Gaijin's Alex Neuse has shone a little light on the story.
