Sonic came about as a blend of marketing and hardware, which is exactly what Nintendo does best - great hardware bringing about innovative games. It wanted to do what Nintendon&#039;t and Sonic was that answer.</description>

I like SEGA too, but you have to admit Nintendo is far superior both in past and in present - better games, more games, more creative games. For example how many genres has Sonic chased Mario into?

And while Mario the mascot grew out of Nintendo arcades games gradually and by accident, Sonic was created by SEGA to answer Nintendo platformers and fill their mascot void.  Mario became great through great software, Sonic was a marketing decision - it is an interesting comparison.</description>
